Christmas at Home

christmas at home

Grant calls up the stairs but there’s no answer.

“William, how long can it possibly take you to find a bag of tinsel?”

Still no answer: Grant goes to investigate. In the spare room, William is hidden behind a mountain of cardboard boxes. Perhaps they haven’t been quite so successful in unpacking as they hoped, but this is their first Christmas in their own house and decorations have taken priority (including the enormous Christmas tree that William insisted on, still requiring tinsel).

“William, did you hear me? You’ve been up here for ages.”

Title: Christmas at home

Author: Owl_by_Night

Characters: Colquhoun Grant/William De Lancey, Arabella Strange/Jonathan Strange

Summary: Modern academia!AU Christmas vignette based on a prompt by nothinghamshire on tumblr (see also The Joy of Baking).  Part of the author’s The Twelve Days of (JSAMN fanfic) Christmas.

Author’s Notes: Once upon a time, nothinghamshire made a wonderful post on tumblr about team peninsula as academics. Somehow an idea grew from that, so I’m offering today’s fic as a thank you and I hope you don’t mind that I used your lovely images as a springboard.

I don’t know if this modern AU has the potential to grow beyond this story. Some of them work in academia but it turned out to be less of the story than I expected it to be. I’m not even sure if this is the happy ending or just the beginning.

So, just for today as the last day of the year, I offer up this fic as it is: unadulterated fluffiness where everyone gets the happy ending that canon denies them.
