A New Year’s message from the archivist

making roads

Hello friends!

After a hiatus of almost a year, Not Particularly Safe is live once more. It will take me a while to catch up with the stories written since January 2017 (!), so please bear with me as I dust off my spreadsheet and clear out my image folder.

I toyed with the idea of dividing the site up between canonical and non-canonical fic, but after sleeping on it, I decided that as long as posts are tagged properly, this would be pointless. I am currently editing the tags and categories, so until I have finished, you might find it easier to find a particular story or subject by using the search box.

I also thought about putting some artwork onto the site, but for the moment, have decided not to, mainly because there’s already a very well-organised and comprehensive Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell fan art blog.

Series: there are some very excellent series in this fandom (I’m looking most particularly at you, Owl_by_Night and fengirl88!), and in order to showcase them, I have listed them on this page.

Resources: this page, which gathers together historical and canonical data relevant to followers of NPS, will now be regularly updated. I hope it will inform and inspire new fic, or just give fans something to dip into in idle moments. If you come across a site, blog or video that gives context to Jonathan Strange’s activities in the Iberian peninsula, whether as depicted in the BBC TV series, or Susanna Clarke’s books, please let me know, and I will add it to this section.

Commentary: this new section will link to meta and meta-related discussions on the activities of the members of Team Peninsula culled from blogs, tumblr posts and media reviews. I am also soliciting articles from fans on specific subjects.  Again, please send me details of anything you find which might be of interest to followers of NPS.

Otherwise, things will continue much as they did before.  I hope you enjoy your visit, and please don’t forget to leave comments for the lovely writers at the sites where their stories are archived!
